About

“Coach Cathy” Buchanan obtained her RN, BSN in 1982.  She has focused her career in pediatrics, school health & sports injury. Coach Cathy spent 12 years as a School Nurse (8 in Long Beach Unified District & 4 with the Olympia School District). She is also a Credentialed Health Teacher K-12 & High School Volleyball Coach.

When a volleyball injury sustained on 4/4/96, quickly led to the disease, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, she was forced to step down from her school nurse position.

The one role she’s been able to continue is coaching, which has been her passion for the past 21 years.

Coach Cathy views coaching as her  ministry. “Having the opportunity to be a part of the lives of these high school athletes, is a complete joy. To me, coaching is a platform to help motivate, guide and encourage young female athletes to be more and do more than they ever thought possible. Coaching isn’t just about the sport of volleyball, but life lessons to carry them beyond the court…into every area of their lives. Teamwork, discipline, integrity, selflessness, confidence, accountability, academic responsibility, being teachable and leadership.   Every one of my athletes (past & present) know they are loved & valued regardless of their athletic abilities. That’s important to me and a responsibility I take very seriously.”
